The three class styles

Every class at FS8 is low-impact, but not every class feels the same. The schedule rotates through three styles, and which one you walk into changes the tempo of the session:

StyleWhat it is
Resistance Functional resistance training focused on building lean muscle mass, increasing bone density and sculpting a stronger physique. Controlled movements with purpose — every rep counts.
Cardio High-energy, fast-paced work designed to torch calories and build cardiovascular endurance: plyometrics, agility drills and explosive movements that keep your heart rate up from start to finish.
Hybrid A 50/50 fusion of the two. Explosive cardio bursts combined with strength-building exercises, for a full-body workout that builds endurance and power at the same time.

What the name means

FS8 is not an abbreviation of a studio name — it describes the method:

Is reformer Pilates a good starting point if you're new?

It is one of the few formats where being new is not a disadvantage. The reformer carries part of your body weight and sets the resistance for you, so the movement is controlled rather than improvised. First-timers are welcome at FS8: the classes are designed for you to go at your own pace, and the trainers walk you through the equipment, the exercises and the technique step by step.

Low impact does not mean low effort. The exercises are built to minimise the load on your joints, but you should still expect to need a sweat towel — the classes are low on impact and high on sweat.

If you are training with an injury, get clearance from your medical practitioner first, and tell the instructor before class so they can modify the exercises for you.

What it's meant to change

Move better

The exercises work muscular strength, endurance, stability, flexibility, coordination, balance and alignment. Trainers are on hand to check your form and give you a regression or a progression so each workout lands where you are.

Feel better

The method promotes quality and consistency over pushing to the limit, which is the point of the low-impact design: regular exercise you can sustain, rather than a cycle of burn-out and injury.

Look better

Consistent, quality movement tones and strengthens. Because stability and flexibility are built into the class, it also works on muscular imbalances and muscle activation — which shows up as better alignment and posture.
